Hopi Ear Candle Treatment….and I have to say I Love this modality and really hope you do to!

Ear Candling is a pleasant non-invasive treatment that can help to promote an enhanced state of health. It is used primarily to relieve conditions in the head and ear area, such as sinus problem, compacted ear wax, tinnitus and headaches or simply as an enjoyable means of relieving stress.

History of Hopi Ear Candle

Since ancient times, many cultures including the Egyptians, Romans and Greeks.

Ear Candling is an ancient and natural therapy handed down by many civilisations. It is believed that the Ancient Greeks used ear candles, initially probably for cleansing, purifying and healing on a spiritual basis. They were used to cleanse and harmonise the different energy fields of the body.

Hopi Ear Candling techniques as we know them today, however, are believed to originate from the Native American Hopi Indians of North Arizona. A tribe that were renowned for their knowledge and therapeutic healing techniques. The American Indian Hopi tribe were respected for their peace loving spiritual lifestyle in which the word Hopi is derived from meaning ‘peaceful ones’ and this gentle and soothing therapy is indeed well known for its calming and relaxing effects. Ear candles are now widely used throughout the modern world for helping specific conditions and to still stressful minds.

What are the Benefits of Ear Candling?
Having the word ‘ear’ in the treatment title gives the illusion that it is used primarily just to treat ear conditions but that is not always the case, as the treatment can relieve conditions affecting the ear, such as ear-aches, tinnitus, excessive earwax, and glue ear. It also benefits other conditions that affect the head area such as colds, hay fever, headaches, sinus problems, Vertigo and snoring and above all is an extremely relaxing treatment.

The benefits reported have been wide ranging, with the effect of the warm smoke (entering the ear, soothing inner tissues, and calming inflammation) created when the ear candles burn, you could experience some great effects.

Ear Candling has been used for conditions such as sinusitis, rhinitis, tinnitus, vertigo, headache/migraine, excessive wax, allergies and hay fever, TMJ pain & lymphatic circulation.

• Pain and congestion in the ears and head following flying and diving.
• Snoring
• Insomnia – many clients fall asleep during the treatment.
• Tinnitus
• Compacted earwax which gradually softened and was expelled from the ears after several treatments.
• Migraine and tension headaches
• Sinus problems
• Stress & tension – many clients find the treatment extremely relaxing and some have it for this reason only!

How are the Ear candles formulated and how do they differ from a standard household candle?
Ear candles are not candles as we usually understand them in that they are hollow and have no wick. They are made from cotton, linen or hemp, and sprayed with beeswax which stiffens the candles. Some types of candles also have the added benefit of being infused with honey, herbs or essential oils. When ear candles are alight, they resemble standard candles so that is how they got the name.

How do Hopi Ear Candles work?
The candles I use are made from 100% Natural materials; 100% beeswax and unbleached cotton and scents includes Rosemary, Green Tea, Rose, Mint, Lavender, Sandalwood, Orange, Bergamot.
The candles work on a chimney principle, drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed. They equalise the pressure in the head and ears, making them suitable for most conditions.
Secretion flow is gently stimulated, and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. Most of these are carried away through the candle “chimney”, although some of them can be found in the condensed candle wax residue after removal from the ear or could even work their way up to the surface 24-48 hours after.

The treatment involves placing an ear candle – a hollow tube made of unbleached cotton that is coated with natural ingredients such as beeswax, honey and herbs I choose these because they are safer than the more narrow paraffin dipped candles which burn too hot and can easily cause injury to the ear and skin. Additionally, breathing the smoke created by burning beeswax is much safer for the respiratory system than smoke generated by burning toxic paraffin, a petrol-chemical.

The tapered end is gently inserted into the outer opening of the ear. The candle is not inserted deeply or painfully, just firmly enough to create a seal all the way around to keep smoke from leaking out of the ear.The wide end of the hollow candle is lit.
Treating each ear separately, as the candle gently burns down it starts to act like a ‘chimney’ creating a light vacuum effect. The flicker of the flame also creates vibrations that massage the eardrum. The herbal vapours from the lit candle also swirl into the ear canal, helping to soothe and balance.

What Does It Feel Like?

As the candle burns down, many say it sounds like a fire softly crackling away which adds to the overall relaxing experience. The usual burn time of each candle is between ten and fifteen minutes. A pleasant feeling of warmth from both the candle and the reassurance of touch also makes this a deeply relaxing treatment.

The Facial
A facial after a Hopi Ear Candle Treatment complements the effects of the ear candling by helping to release blockages in the sinuses and ears and beneficial to help drain any fluids.
I  offer the client the choice of using Aromatherapy oils or a 0% cream for people with sensitivity towards Essential Oils.
The facial massage is soothing and gentle and will work around the lymphatic areas of the face and pressure points.
The Face Massage can be a 15 minute treatment or a full option which includes a relaxing head and scalp, shoulder, neck and ears also accompanies the treatment.

If you choose to have the face massage part of the session, it can be very therapeutic and allows a deeper and smoother massage, however I can give the Hopi Ear Candle Treatment with or without the relaxing face massage.

Ear candling is a gentle non-invasive process but there are certain conditions that would prevent treatment.

After the treatment, the body will begin to rid itself of unwanted waste products such as toxins. This is the body’s natural reaction to the treatment and is a vital part of the detoxification process to restore balance.  Because of this you might experience some temporary side effects, particularly following the first treatment, which could comprise of the following:
Flu like symptoms i.e. runny nose, headache.
Increased urination and/or bowel movements.

Ear Candling is a very gentle and nurturing treatment, effective for extracting impurities and releasing soothing properties into the auricular system.

Never EVER attempt to candle your own ears. This is how people burn themselves. Ear candling is a very soothing, non invasive modality most recipients will tend to fall asleep or become very relaxed. Getting sleepy while managing fire is a recipe for disaster. Attempting to ear candle oneself with paraffin candles has given ear candling in general a very bad reputation. PLEASE don’t do it!

It is an extremely relaxing and de-stressing treatment to give and to receive.

It is considered beneficial to proceed with a course of four, this can be over a couple of months and will begin to ease blockages, tension and stress.

If you then wish to continue once a month thereafter, and for a real treat enjoy with another Holistic Therapy of choice or a longer relaxing Face Massage such as the Tsuboki that I have trained in and enjoy administering.

With each Hopi Treatment I have administered I have found that each client derives a certain calm after – and the feedback has been so encouraging! From helping with sinusites to easing headaches and helping ease post covid symptoms!

Here is some feedback from happy clients:

Had an absolutely wonderful Hopi ear candle treatment with ridoki rollers, head/face massage as well as reiki and a foot massage! I’ve been having some jaw issues (mostly due to stress and clenching) which included hours of pain the day before but all this combined has really helped the pain and for the first time in ages I actually fully relaxed, even snuck in a nap!! Still feeling the benefits a few days later which is a really lovely feeling! Definitely looking forward to more treatments 💜

Naomi

I decided to try The Hopi Ear Candle including a facial which works around sinuses and lymphatic points which helps to release blockages and tension (as I was already there on the table). I was a bit apprehensive at first but it was a very relaxing treatment and the end results of ear wax clearing were achieved! Amazing . I would definitely recommend the treatments

Kim

So after a couple of days suffering from sinusitis which caused a mega headache, I decided to let Pam work some magic. My 1st hopi ear candle treatment. I was a little nervous but trust Pam. I relaxed and had a lovely face massage to end. I have felt a lot better this afternoon and can hear clearly now. Thank you Pam
