BENEFITS OF A HOLISTICALLY YOURS WELLBEING FACIAL & MASSAGE

The benefits of self-care have scientific merit.  More than just a trend, engaging in self-care has been clinically shown to benefit your mental health. In our busy day to day lives, it forces us to carve time out of our day to reconnect with ourselves, tend to our needs, and nourish our bodies.

Of all the self-care practices out there, receiving a facial massage is among the most beneficial. This is because the techniques applied during a facial treatment make use of our body’s skin-mind connection. Our skin and minds have an interconnected relationship, and the condition of your skin can be a mirror into your overall health.
For instance, dull, dry skin might remind you to pour yourself a glass of water. Or a spot popping up along your jawline might signal that your monthly cycle is about to start. Our bodies are always trying to communicate with us, but often we fail to listen. By being mindful of this skin-mind connection, you can notice these signals and tend to your body’s needs.

Likewise, applying intentional pressure and touch to the skin, as well as certain oils and creams, can have positive effects on our emotions and health.

This is why having facial treatments that require massage can successfully relieve stress. Studies support this, showing that a facial massage can reduce anxiety and uplift a negative mood.

In fact, the benefits that facial treatments have on stress are often understated. A holistic facial treatment loosens and relaxes facial muscles that are habitually clenched through warm compresses and intentional touch. It also circulates blood flow which can reduce inflammation, a common contributor in aging. The result is decreased puffiness and a youthful glow.

Most importantly, a facial treatment can positively stimulate the vagus nerve. The vagus nerves play a large role in your parasympathetic nervous system. They help control involuntary functions like your heart beat and mood. The vagus nerves also counteracts your flight-or-flight response and signals to your body that it is okay to calm down. You have a vagus nerve that runs along each side of your body, starting from your brainstem and traveling through your neck all the way to your stomach. During a holistic facial, your therapist can stimulate your vagus nerve in a way that triggers relaxation throughout your body. This can reduce stress and calm the nervous system as a result, it can also balance out your emotions, lower your heart rate, and even reduce inflammation-induced aging.

Stress is an unavoidable part of life. But chronic and uncontrolled stress can wreak havoc on our mental and physical health and contribute to premature aging. By practicing self-care regularly, we can counteract some of the effects of stress. Getting a facial treatment that involves a massage is a great way to do this. As a therapist I can loosen tight facial muscles, circulate blood flow that reduces inflammation, and stimulate your vagus nerve to reduce stress levels.

A facial does more than wash the dirt off your face, it deep cleans to remove toxins, bacteria, and dead skin cells. The thorough cleansing you get from a facial not only protects you against infection, but also may help prevent acne and blackheads and make your skin look much healthier.

I start with a lovely facial cleanse, which is followed by a facial steam. This can be anything from 5-10 minutes dependant on the skin type.

The Facial Steam

Is steam good for your face skin?

Steam opens up pores and helps loosen any buildup of dirt for a deeper cleanse. Opening up your pores also softens blackheads which make them easier to remove. It promotes circulation. The combination of the warm steam and an increase in perspiration dilates blood vessels and increases circulation.

Do facial steamers really work?

Yes — for oily or acne-prone skin types. For one, it unclogs pores. Steam loosens dirt and contaminants that clog pores; the heat causes sweating, which flushes out pores. It also helps skincare products absorb better

However, and there are always contra-indications in ALL Therapies we do have to consider that not everyone will be able to have a Steam Facial. This will of course be discussed at the time of your Treatment, you will still benefit from the rest of the treatment.

Sensitive Skin Types

Steam and redness are not friends, nor should they try to be reconciled. Sensitive skin or those with Rosacea should steer clear to avoid more irritation. The steam dilates blood vessels which only adds to the flushed, red look these skin types try to avoid. The extra heat can be particularly irritating and drying to these skin types and overall have negative consequences on the skin. There are many natural remedies available for the management of rosacea symptoms. These include aloe vera, coconut oil, and lavender.
If you let me know pre-rendevous I will prepare a “cool face mask” instead of the steam.

Normal to Oily Skin Types

If you suffer from acne and oiliness, or have normal skin, you’ll be happy to know that steam can do some really wonderful things for your skin. It allows for better absorption of topical products and increases circulation and blood flow to the face.

The Benefits of a Facial Steam

  • It increases circulation. The warm steam, together with sweat, will dilate blood vessels, causing an increase in blood circulation in the face. This nourishes the skin while also delivering more oxygen. The result is a natural glow.
  • It is cleansing. Steaming opens the pores and loosens dirt and dead skin cell build-up. It also softens blackheads for easy removal.
  • Trapped sebum is released. Sebum is a natural oil your skin produces for your skin and scalp. Sometimes it gets trapped below the skin’s surface and becomes a host to bacteria, blackheads, and acne.
  • It is hydrating for your skin. The steam causes more oil to be produced and moisturizes the skin.
  • It’s soothing and relaxing – for you and your skin. The steam is comforting.
  • It makes other skincare products more effective. The steam makes your skin more permeable, so topical skincare products are more easily absorbed.
  • It clears sinus congestion. In addition to benefits for your skin, you can also clear sinus congestion by steaming your face. Inhaling the warm steam loosens mucus, allowing you to breathe freely.

I will then use a gentle exfoliator, and apply a lovely clay mask, these are made up in advance of your Treatment. When booking a rendevous I will check with you to your skin type (if I haven’t Treated you previously) so that I can prepare the best mask for your skin type.

The Clay Mask

Green Powder clay is extracted from the Auvergne Mountains.
French green clay is known for its toning and firming properties. As it dries on the skin, it tightens the pores and stimulates blood flow, resulting in a more toned and lifted appearance. Absorbent, purifying and regenerating, it is especially well-suited to the care of combination to oily skins. It absorbs and regulates excess sebum, eliminates toxins and impurities, revitalises the skin and encourages cellular renewal. It also has antiseptic and softening properties.

White Kaolin Powder – extracted in France, with its neutral pH, it is particularly appropriate for the care of dry, fragile skins. It is a valuable aid in the care of irritated skin on account of its antiseptic and healing properties. Absorbent, decongestant, regenerating and soothing, it eliminates toxins and impurities, revitalises and calms whilst encouraging healthy cellular renewal.

Pink Clay – restores radiance to skin that is dull, tired, and/or weakened by pollution. It helps to heal spots and acne scars. It softens and soothes sensitive and weakened skin. It gently exfoliates the skin of the face.

However, if you do not wish to have a clay mask, I do have other varieties including a lovely soft cloth type, which can be used warm or cold. Just let me know so that I can have them to hand.
Whilst you are relaxing with a face mask, I will be massaging your feet and hands.

The mask is removed after around 10 minutes and then we proceed with moisturisers.
This also includes a face massage with hands and some magical cooling ‘boules de cristal’, which are amazing.

I complete with a head and neck massage with a lovely essential oil blend to help those tired and aching muscles which should help you feel totally de-stressed and relaxed.

What are the Benefits of the Boules de Cristal?

  • These special crystal balls are used to aid lifting, massage, detoxification and relaxation.
  • Used in a circular motion they help the skin relax, which is conducive to the aborption of the skin care products used. they help the skin on the face look glowing and smooth.
  • Used regularly they will lift and tighten the skin, and have an effect on improving the facial lines around the mouth, cheeks, forehead and canthus lines.
  • Improve rough skin, coarse pores, acne and especially good for sensitive skin. Aids repair after sunburn and other facial skin issues.
  • And last but certainly not least, they can help eliminate tension, relieve fatique due to the refreshing and calming effect of the boules and the method used.

How often should I have a full Wellbeing Facial?
Most experts advise that you should get a professional facial once every four weeks. That’s because it takes new skin cells about four weeks to generate, and you want to wait for your new skin turnover before your next treatment.

If you’re already a lover of Facials or indeed you want to try one, lets talk about the basics. There are many different types of facial treatments you can get. Each therapist has their own way of doing a treatment, so you won’t get the same experience or even the same product. I will be using Vegan products that are made in France, they are for sensitive skin so they will cover all 4 skin types.

BENEFITS OF A HOLISTICALLY YOURS WELLBEING FACIAL & MASSAGE

Increases Circulation:
Massaging the skin can cause more blood to flow to the face, which is always a good thing. This way, skin cells are getting more oxygen for healthy circulation.

Detoxifies:
Part of getting a facial treatment means extracting all the dirt that’s trapped deep in your pores, this is a much safer way to clear out those whiteheads and blackheads than picking at them in your magnifying mirror.

Boosts Skin’s Absorption Abilities:
Having facials often means getting the reset your skin needs to open pores and extract build-up. This is why the steaming process alone is always worth it. Open pores allow products to seep into the skin and essentially cause them to work more effectively. If it’s been a while since you’ve had a good skin reset and refresh, a facial does the trick.

Relieves Stress:
When has a Wellbeing Treatment ever sounded like a chore? Studies have shown that facials activate your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. This means they have a way of reducing anxiety and boosting moods. Your skin shows when you’re stressed, so the more facial treatments you get, the less prone you’ll be to acne breakouts.

Slows the Aging Process:
When you’re detoxifying your skin, exposing it to steam, opening up your pores, and using good skincare products, your skin will look much more supple. Not to mention, the facial treatment process also increases collagen production and boosts cell turnover for firmer and smoother skin.

As with all Wellbeing Treatments there are many benefits to be gained, both physically and mentally, with this Facial & Massage the same applies.

It really is a case of Relax, Recharge & Refresh, you will not only benefit from a lovely facial, you will also have the massages to really help you feel completely revitalised & beyond that, getting a holistic facial gives you time to practice mindfulness and you will leave with a glowing, youthful appearance!
