Over the years I have shared about Tisanes and Teas, however they don’t seem to have made the cut to the Website – (which came after my Facebook Page), so to keep my information altoghether it just seems easier to have it all on one page on my website!
I do love a good herbal tea or an infusion from Liquoirice and Mint to a Blend of Red Tea.
Apart from Stress Relief these teas bring many other benefits:
Peppermint tea is a really good all rounder as it also aids bloated tummies, upset stomach, heartburn, indigestion to name but a few ailments!
Chamomile tea… has antioxidants which can help protect the skin from free radical damage and properties that may aid digestion and sleep as well.
Lemon Balm Tea…is said to help stress and anxiety, and can also help cold sores, high cholesterol, indigestion and heartburn.
Passion Flower Tea…it can also aid depression related to menopause, insomnia, lowers blood pressure and can induce a good night’s sleep in children.
Rose Tea...good for skin health due to vit. A and E. Effective anti-allergen. Can be used cooled and applied to skin rashes and allergies. Good for women suffering with heavy periods and irregular periods. Helps immune system, cures sore throats, helps digestion, constipation and diarrhea. And you can brew your own!!
Jasmine Tea…
Jasmine tea is a type of tea, scented with the aroma of blossoms from the jasmine plant. It’s typically based on green tea, but sometimes black or white tea is used instead.
Blossoms from common jasmine (Jasminum officinale) or sampaguita (Jasminum sambac) are placed alongside tea leaves in storage or blended with stored tea, allowing the aroma to infuse.
Because jasmine tea is typically made from green tea leaves, it provides many of the same powerful health benefits that you would get from drinking green tea.
Jasmine tea is high in
polyphenols that act as antioxidants in your body. It also contains the
powerful polyphenol EGCG.
Jasmine tea polyphenols may help neutralize plaque-forming bacteria like Streptococcus mutans. In addition, it may combat bad breath.
Jasmine tea contains caffeine and L-theanine, which may help keep you more alert and vigilant. Plus, it may improve short-term memory.
Another Backdated Post about the different types of Tea and their benefits to enjoy..
I spoke about dropping caffeine and trying relaxing tisanes… so if you are maybe looking for something different in your cup,so I thought I’d share my faves..
With a couple of Green, Red or White teas that I’ve grown to love! I do limit the White tea to 2 per day, as they still have caffeine in just less!
I do love a good herbal tea or an infusion, as many of my family and friends may know! Having a brew here can lead to minor problems as we never have milk in either
I do tend to end the day with a night time cuppa which is either the Clipper Marchand de Sable or Paige’s (only found this in Auchan though!)
Below I have picked the Highlights from the 4 popular colours of Tea…
White tea is made from the Camellia sinensis plant. Its leaves and buds are picked just before they are fully open, when they’re covered in fine white hairs. This is where white tea gets its name. White tea is the least processed of the three teas. Because of this, it retains a high amount of antioxidants.
White tea is packed with polyphenols, which have antioxidant benefits. They help reduce chronic inflammation by protecting the body against damage from free radicals.
White tea, is one of the most delicate tea varieties because it’s minimally processed.
Red Bush tea has been my favourite tea for years, I’m so pleased I can buy it here now! It is also naturally tannin and caffeine free!
Unlike Green tea, Rooibos contains no tannins, (a naturally occurring compound that can irritate the sensitive tissues that line the stomach and digestive tract, resulting in nausea or stomach ache). Rooibos is antispasmodic, and can soothe stomach cramps.
Recent research published in Molecular Nutrition & Food Research showed that rooibos can significantly reduce the levels of cortisol, a stress hormone. Proper stress management is important for a good night sleep, and for health in general.
Green Tea is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients which help brain function, increases physical performance, kills bacteria which improves dental health and lowers risk of infection!
Contains caffeine (less than coffee) amino acid L-theanine which also has anti anxiety effects, increases dopamine and alpha waves in the brain!!
Black Tea, it is rich in antioxidants and may provide health benefits, including improved heart and gut health and a reduced risk for certain diseases.
It comes from the Camellia sinensis plant and is often blended with other plants for different flavors, such as Earl Grey or chai.
It’s stronger in flavor and contains more caffeine than other teas, but less caffeine than coffee.
Black tea also offers a variety of health benefits because it contains antioxidants and compounds that may help reduce inflammation in the body.
Black tea can help improve focus due to its content of caffeine and an amino acid called L-theanine. This amino acid increases alpha activity in the brain, which can help improve focus and alertness.
So whichever Brew you prefer will always be a win win…..they are all pretty good for you, not saying coffee is not good as yes, that has many properties as does Chicory but I do love making infusions with Tea!
Also any of these teabags or infusions can be added to a bottle of water, leave overnight in the fridge, et voila iced tea no added artificial additives and makes great refreshing drinks when it’s warm
Add ins – to really give your Iced Tea a great taste you can add whichever herbs and spices you like and enjoy…
I will add herbs from the garden fresh or dried each iced tea is completely different, so it’s a surprise every time!
Mint
Spearmint
Chocolate Mint
Sage
Rose Petals
Lemon Balm
Lavender
Thyme
Leaves
Strawberry
Blackberry
Rasberry
Lemon
Dried Peel from:
Grapefruit
Lemon
Lime
Orange
Spices
Ginger
Cinammon
I use a teapot to brew the tisanes/iced tea with it’s own diffuser it makes it much easier. Leave for a good few hours to go cold then add to a bottle and pop in the fridge. If you want to add something a little different Zero Tonic water adds a nice summer spritz feel or how about a refreshing Iced Tea Latté for breakfast – it’s lovely with a plant based milk and has a light taste I use half a glass of milk and half a glass of iced tea add ice cubes and blitz – works perfectly with half a grapefruit!
And of course – you don’t have to use any tea just use the herbs, leaves and peels. Have a play around and see which flavours suit you best!
Disclaimer:I am not a doctor! As with all things in life, it is wise to do a little research. Some people cannot tolerate caffeine and some have no issues with it – some people cannot tolerate caffeine free or tannin free produce. IF you have any after effects from drinking too much of either then it is wise to say – go to your Doctor.
